The General Contractor was to locate deficiencies in the existing penstock welds, gouge out the cracks and re-weld the seams.
Trained and tested eight Local 203 Boilermaker Welders to the Liburdi equipment, provided welding technical support throughout the project, and preformed the automated Plasma gouging of the cracks, as well as welding when required.
Liburdi's automated plasma arc-gouging procedure allowed for faster execution of the gouging as well as a uniform width and depth of the gouge. Once complete, and with a quick transition, Liburdi’s K-Heads were then used to re-weld the seams, again reducing weld times and number of welders required.
